2017 ISA Junior Scholar Meeting

Wednesday, February 22, 2017 –  8:15 AM – 10:00 AM

The ISA Junior Scholar Meeting is a facilitated meet and greet where established academics engage with prior selected junior scholars. Early career scholars ranging from PhD students to Post-Docs (i.e., a recent PhD graduate who had their doctorate awarded within the last three years) are eligible to apply. Applicants do not need to be members of either STAIR or ICOMM to be eligible to participate, but their research interests should be related in some way to the focus of the senior scholars participating in the event.

Sponsored By: Science, Technology and Art in International Relations & International Communication

Application Deadline: December 7, 2016

Organized By: Leonie Maria Tanczer

Objectives: ISA’s annual convention can be very overwhelming and slightly intimidating for early career scholars with no or limited academic networks. The meeting has therefore the objectives:

  • To lower the entry barrier to ISA and the whole academic community.
  • To facilitate a networking process in a structured and supportive environment.
  • To foster a knowledge exchange between early career and senior scholars who work on similar research topics.
  • To provide the opportunity to receive peer-reviewed feedback under the supervision of an established academic.
  • To talk about various career-related issues with a scholar who has been in the early career scholars research field for years.
  • To give space to the ideas, thoughts, and worries of early career researchers.
  • To provide and encourage long-lasting connections that can support attendees far beyond the convention.
