The Department of Political Science at Virginia Tech invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Security Governance. We are interested in applicants who can demonstrate research and teaching expertise in the following domains of inquiry: human security and insecurity (broadly defined), U.S. national and the transnational governance of national security threats, the role of NGOs and INGOs in matters of human governance/security, security and governance questions related to immigration, refugee flows, cross-border movements, and displaced populations, and gender and/or race and security. Focusing on these governance issues and public policy responses in the United States is the main emphasis but cross-national perspectives also are welcome. Applicants who approach these concerns from a theoretical and critical perspective are encouraged to apply. The standard teaching load is two courses per semester. This position will begin August 10, 2017.
